FIOH-USA date of
incorporation in New York State was December 5, 2005. We have a total
of ten members of our board. We are from the Buffalo, New York area
and we are people from many different occupations.
Thus far our main
focus has been to work with FIOH-K (Kenya) with sponsoring students
for schooling in secondary as well as college, building wells for potable
water and research on HIV/AIDS and poverty.
We will continue
to work on securing funds for work in Kenya and when we are granted
not-for-profit status by the Internal Revenue we anticipate more opportunities
for our fund raising efforts.
Further detailed
information about the work of FIOH Kenya and the outcomes of our developing
partnership with this group see the personal testimonies of two of the
Board members, Linda Glaeser
and Michele Sprada and
the FIOH Fund and FIOH
Network partner pages on this web site. See
also the personal testimony of FIOH K Coordinator, Rom
Wandera and the Update on activities.
We Are Now Official!
By Mary Pietras, Boardmember FIOH USA
As of December 5,
2005 Future in Our Hands USA was incorporated and granted tax-exempt
status. We are registered as a non-profit organization with New York
State as well as the US Federal Government.
We have set our
goals for fund-raising projects as follows:
· Wells- to provide potable water and start tree nurseries
· Education- to help children step out of poverty with an education
· Medical equipment and supplies
· HIV/AIDS education and treatment
We are continuing
our efforts to raise funds by offering schools and churches an opportunity
to hear a presentation by Michele Sprada and Sister Linda Glaeser SSJ
on our work in Kenya. We have received funds from schools that ran bake
sales to make a donation. Many generous church members have donated
following these presentations. We are currently planning a large fund-raiser
for 2007 and are making plans to secure a corporate sponsor in the future.
Our bi-annual newsletter
(HARAMBEE) recently gave the latest updates on the progress in Kenya
to our sponsors with several articles and photos included.
We are pleased with
our progress but we also so much more needs to be done.
