More than 75,000
people were killed and many thousands were injured by the powerful
earthquake that struck the Hindu Kush mountain range in Pakistan in
early October 2005, sending shockwaves across south Asia and reducing
cities and villages to rubble.
The earthquake measured 7.7 on the Richter scale. Approximately 3
million have been left homeless.
Villagers were working through the night, often with their bare hands,
to clear the rubble of collapsed buildings as they struggled to save
the victims of the disaster.
